2012 Iowa Horse Judges Directory

Mare and Foal Workshop - Feb. 11th & 12th

All horse owners, mare managers, foaling attendants, and other breeding farm personnel will benefit from this program by learning the most efficient methods for ensuring success of their breeding program. Lecture topics include sessions on anatomy & physiology of the mare, control of the estrous cycle, manipulation of the estrous cycle, gestation & foaling, foal care & diseases and feeding the broodmare and young horse. The 2nd day are hands-on laboratory activities that include estrous detection, artificial insemination, body condition scoring, evaluation of the mare and foaling management.

North Central Region Equine Business Conference - Feb. 25th

Hosted by Michigan State University, University of Minnesota, University of Nebraska, and Iowa State University, the Equine Business Conference will provide horse industry professionals in the North Central Region with information and resources on liability, business finance, marketing, and insurance for equine business owners. There will be a "live" presenter at each of the 4 locations while the other three presenters will be broadcast to each location. You’ll then have the opportunity to participate in round table discussions with other industry professionals. This multi-state conference, funded in part by a grant from the North Central Regional Center for Rural Development, is a collaborative effort between My Horse University and eXtension/horses to keep equine businesses a vibrant part of rural communities. Equine Health and Prevention of Diseases - April 6th

The course is a program designed to help you maintain optimal health and reduce risks of disease on your farm. You will be introduced to many of the common problems facing the horse owner and you will learn the steps to take so that you can reduce the risk of diseases and injuries for your horses.
